Who Is This District Leader?
Serving students in grades 6-12, The Delta Academy is an accredited public charter school situated in North Las Vegas, Nevada. For the past 10 years, Kyle Konold has been the Executive Director for The Delta Academy. During the 2015-2017 school years, and in partnership with WestEd’s School Transformation Coaches, Dr. Konold administered the Comprehensive Assessment of Leadership for Learning (CALL) in order to gauge school-wide leadership effectiveness. Read more about how Dr. Konold and his staff used CALL data for continuous improvement.
How They Used Call
Dr. Konold administered the CALL survey in 2015-2016 school year to “identify areas of strength and areas in need of improvement,” he explained. “Once identified, we created a improvement plan to address the areas in need of improvement.” After creating the improvement plan, and acting on key areas identified in the CALL system, Dr. Konold and his school administered the CALL survey again the following school year “to determine the effectiveness of our intervention plan.” Using CALL in this way served as “our pre-test baseline measure and our post-test measure of growth.”
How CALL Helped
According to Dr. Konold, “the CALL data guided us in identifying the areas in need of improvement. We created a comprehensive improvement plan with focuses on effective Professional Learning Communities and Professional Development.” These are areas found in Domain 3, Building Nested Learning Communities. Using the CALL system to measure year-to-year process, Dr. Konold saw significant differences in CALL data in all areas, but especially in Domain 3: “We made tremendous gains in the five CALL domains. We will continue to use CALL to ensure we continue our forward movement in the identified areas in need of improvement and do not slip backward in the identified areas of strength.”
